Raspberry leaf (Rubus idaeus & related species) is an astringent herb that has long been cherished as a uterine tonic. It has been used for painful menstruation, heavy menstrual bleeding, amenorrhea, and pelvic organ prolapse.
Combined with soothing, toning rose these two herbs make for a lovely vaginal steam.

Red Raspberry Leaf Laborade
Birth is one of the great unknowns. Whether it is your first baby or fourth, we can never quite predict how labor will unfold and it is one of the most intense physical experiences someone will go through. Create a self-care plan to feel grounded as the time approaches and know your wellbeing will be cared for.
Herbal Laborade is a recipe to earmark for your birthing kit. Think of it as a sports drink tailored to the pregnant, birthing, and postpartum mama comprised of herbal tea and coconut water with additional enhancements.
The star of the herbal tea is red raspberry leaf. Its astringency helps tone and strengthen the uterus and pelvic muscles and aids in shortening the length of labor, easing pains from to its antispasmodic properties, and encourages and helps enrich breast milk due to its vitamin and mineral count, including calcium and magnesium.

This month is all about Raspberry Leaf with Plant Wonder Collective. Which is really perfect timing for me because I am currently drinking as much Raspberry leaf tea as I can to prepare for labor !
I am 39 weeks pregnant and baby boy is measuring large like my last two. Both of my deliveries had complications, so I'm really praying for a smooth labor & delivery this time. 🙏
Raspberry Leaf Iced Tea to prepare for Labor
I started making this large batch of iced tea over this past week and have been drinking it as often as I can. It's light and refreshing & keeping me hydrated on these scorcher summer days.
Raspberry Leaf is a wonderful herb for pregnancy! It can help tone the uterus and prepare the pelvic region for birth. It can help the cervix to soften and contains a high amount of vitamin E, C, & A, as well as calcium and iron.
Raspberry leaf tea has been used for generations during pregnancy to help tone the muscles of the uterus. It’s believed that regularly drinking teas containing red raspberry leaf during pregnancy will help labor to progress at a steady, even pace.
I also add in some dried nettles to my tea because nettles are high in calcium, vitamins A, C, D and K, potassium, phosphorus, and iron. The high calcium content can help with muscle pain during pregnancy like leg cramps, round ligament pain, cervix & back pain.
Then I added just a bit of a rose/Hibiscus looseleaf tea I have to give it a bit of a floral taste. You can definitely omit this and still have a really tasty tea. Red raspberry leaf by itself is quite tasty !
My midwife suggest I drink as much red raspberry leaf tea as I can over this next week, along with 2 primrose capsules in the A.M. & in the P.M. I'm doing pelvic tilts and stretches on my birthing ball, my hospital bag is packed...
I am ready ! 😄

The Plant Wonder Collective is exploring the many healing properties of beautiful Red Raspberry this month!✨
♥️
Red Raspberry flowers are petite and white and its Flower Essence is very helpful for those who are very sensitive and are inclined to take things too personally and are specifically sensitive to the words of others. Raspberry Essence also works well for those who feel unworthy. This essence is associated with the root chakra and has a very grounding effect. It also allows us to open our hearts, forgive, release ourselves of past traumas, emotions, and abuse and step into a place of kindness and emotional freedom.✨
♥️
Flower Essences are the energetic imprint of a flower or herb's "essence" which is extracted into water using a gentle sun infusion. These essences do not acquire taste or aroma from the plant itself, but contain its healing and supportive synergistic and highly energetic components.🌸
♥️
Through inspiration of Red Raspberry flower essence I created a few one of a kind orgonite flower essence pendants which symbolize its healing properties!!✨
♥️
I hope you enjoyed having a glimpse into some of the healing magic of Red Raspberry Flower Essence!✨
♥️
Sending a lot of cozy Raspberry magic from Sweet River Cottage🌿 ♥️🌸✨

A new month means a new plant over at plantwondercollective This month we are diving into raspberry leaf 🌿
••
Traditionally, raspberry leaf was a remedy given to pregnant and postpartum women to help nourish the uterus, combat negative symptoms during pregnancy, and aid in labor. It is a gentle, yet powerful, feminine ally. Modern research has shown that raspberry leaf can be beneficial for those suffuring from intense menstrual cramps, PMS, or wanting to regulate their cycle.
••
Raspberry leaf is a plant that is associated with the divine feminine. It corresponds to the planet Venus and sign Taurus. In medical astrology Venus is the ruler of our reproductive system, bladder, and kidneys. We see the relationship between Venus and raspberry leaf through the women's reproductive system and helping to regulate the menstrual cycle. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, raspberry leaf was used to help strengthen the kidneys, which is part of the body Venus watches over. Raspberry leaf is a cousin to the plant rose, and is considered an astringent, making it a great addition to skincare and beauty products. Venus is the planet of love, pleasure, and beauty.
••
Raspberry's relationship to Taurus comes from the deep nourishment held within its leaves. The leaves of this plant are full of vital vitamin, minerals, and nutrients. Taurus, being a lush earth sign, loves to nurture and fill other people's cups. They often come off as very motherly and are the first to offer comfort or soothing advice. Taurus is ruled by Venus and also finds value in love and pleasure.

Folklore & Fables of
Mugwort
Artemisia vulgaris
He who carries Artemis on his travels will never feel weary.
French saying
The name mugwort has ties to two different tales. The plant was used in medieval brews which were served in "mugs." It also deters midges and moths or "muggia." "Wort symbolizes a healing plant."
Common names include artemesia, maiden's wort, crone wort, witch herb, sailor's tobacco, naughty man.
Ruled by Venus and the sign pisces, its element is air.
In floriography, or Victorian Language of Flowers, mugwort signifies happiness.
Symbolism includes:
Protection
Clairvoyance
Divination
Strength
Purification
Fertility
Moon energy
Mugwort is tied to the Artemis (Greek) and Diana (Roman) whom are goddesses of the moon and the wildness, and protector of women, children and birth.
St. John the Baptist wore mugwort around his waste when traveling and Pliny suggested travelers carry it as it is said to protect against the devil, wild beasts, lightning, the plague and witchcraft. It can also be hung above doors to protect against evil spirits.
Roman soldiers wrapped their feet with mugwort to give strength for the journey ahead so it has an association with the feet.
Mugwort is one of the nine sacred herbs of the Anglo Saxons.
Mugwort is the plant of dreams - vivid, prophetic, mystical. Sleep with it under your pillow and observe what appears.
Mugwort can be burned as an incense when working in the psychic realms or used to consecrate divination tools or rituals.

🌛 Sweet Dreams Mugwort Moon Lantern 🌜
Mugwort always makes me think about dreams, there is a whole field of it in one of our favorite parks and we call it the meadow of dreams. We’ve made dream pillows and salves, but for this project I continued on theme and made a night light for sweet dreams!
The mugwort is pressed flat and ironed between two sheets of wax paper. It creates a beautiful dreamy quality- it looks almost like moonwort to me. The wax paper is glued onto a moon shaped wire frame and lit from inside with a battery powered strand of fairy lights. It looks just as lovely in a sunny window as it does lighting up the night!

Let’s dress a candle with mugwort and other herbs associated with Artemis! 🌙🕯️🌿
Candle dressing is easy and adds extra scent and intention to a candle. It’s a bit like combining loose incense with a candle!
I started with a beeswax taper, which has an amazing light scent already. (I tried carving moon phase images into the candle, because the moon is associated with Artemis, but don’t look too closely at them 😅 Maybe you’d be better at this part than me!)
I ground up a bit of the herbs I used in my Artemis mugwort tea post earlier this month and used them to dress the candle: mugwort, pine, lemon balm, poppy, and nutmeg. I rubbed a bit of calendula-infused olive oil on the candle, sprinkled the herbs on, and made sure they stuck well to the candle. (This would work better if you rolled the candle in the herbs on a plate, but I didn’t have one handy!) And that’s it! Burn the candle on a sage surface and enjoy the aroma of the mugwort and other herbs.
Maybe Artemis will bring you some insight in your dreams if you burn this right before bedtime! 🌙🌿🕯️

Inspired by Jeanne Rose’s Herbal Body Book, a beauty book written in the 1970’s, I decided to try making what she calls a “cosmetic vinegar,” which can be used as a facial rinse, aftershave, or deodorant.
My rendition of this retro skin tonic includes mugwort & pine, two aromatic, antioxidant rich botanicals that have demonstrated benefits for the skin.
Find the recipe for this mugwort & pine cosmetic vinegar on my blog. Link in her bio @mamalibelula.

I thought I'd share a lovely soothing foot soak that has several amazing herbs, including mugwort !
Your feet will feel SO smooth and nourished after a good soak. I used room temp water on a hot summer's day, but you could definitely use hot water.
Grab some sweet tea and take your foot soak to the porch to listen to the birds and take a few minutes to yourself ❤️
